Fencing taster lesson - Upper KS2
With the London Olympics fast approaching we have been looking for opportunities for our pupils to experience a range of new sports and activities. Today, Year 6 took part in a fencing taster session. Year 5 will have the same opportunity next week. The session was run by Mr Peter Russell, a fully trained fencing coach who runs his own clubs in Cardiff. The children were taught the basic techniques and principles of the sport as well as the manners and etiquette that are an integral part of competition. Fencing is a sport which not only improves fitness and flexibility but develops co-ordination, balance and reflexes. The session was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Our visit to the Evergreens

On Monday 1st March, we all gathered in the Hall to celebrate St. David’s Day. The next day some of the children went down to Bethany Baptist Church to perform items from our Eisteddfod to the Evergreens (the senior citizens of Rhiwbina). The winners of various competitions: recitation, public speaking, duet, Year 6 orchestra, house choir (Briwnant) and musical instrument soloists went down to perform. The Year 6 orchestra played two Welsh pieces- Suo Gan and Ar Hyd y Nos. In our Eisteddfod we have loads of fun and we love showing our mums and dads and the Evergreens just how much fun we have, so that is why every year we go to Bethany Baptist Church.

Welsh Week
Here at Llanishen Fach we have been building up to St David’s Day with a host of Welsh related activities. We have had a visit from a story teller as well as an opportunity to hear a harpist. All our pupils have or will be making Welsh cakes which as you can imagine is a tall order. We have now had our eisteddfod which was a huge success especially for Deri, this year’s winners. To see pictures of the day’s events click here.

Megan came to Llanishen Fach and told us the ‘Tylwyth Teg’ story and played a couple of tunes for us on her violin.

A lady came to see us and her name was Megan. She told us about the ‘Tylwyth Teg’ and how one day these little men took a baby and swapped it for one of theirs. She played us a tune on her violin.

Today we had a storyteller called Megan. The story was about the ‘Tylwyth Teg’ and she played us tunes on her violin. They were from Wales. We liked the tunes, one was called Potatoes and Peas.

Photos
No two days let alone weeks are ever the same at Llanishen Fach. The breadth of actives our pupils engage in is staggering. While we would like to report on all we do it isn’t always manageable but we do endeavour to give a snapshot through our photographs. To view recent events use the ‘Recent Photos’ link.
